Where We Live /June 2014

I’m excited that June is my first month as part of a blog circle called “Where We Live”. Each month I will be publishing a post dedicated to the city I call home, Portland, OR. Be sure to click the link at the bottom to follow the circle and see other talented photographer’s unique perspectives of the places they call home.

When thinking about Portland and what I might photograph first in the city I love so much, there really wasn’t a question.  My most favorite spot in the city is the place I spend 90% of my time: The Woodlawn neighborhood where I live.

Gritty. Diverse. Colorful. Local. Walkable. Family-Oriented. Tattooed. Graffitied. Caffeinated. Bikeable. Neighborly.

Its a great place for Foodies, People-Watchers, Gardeners, Do-Gooders, Church-goers, and Imbibers.  Its not manicured. uniform or perfect, but there is beauty to be found here, in its uniqueness, and in the people who call it home.

Be sure to follow the circle and check out all the places my talented Photographer friends call home. Next up is Rebecca Hellyer’s blog. She’ll be showing us around her city of Chicago. I can’t wait to see what she’s posted!

Kaisei, Mio, and Winnie {Cathedral Park, Portland, OR}

I had the pleasure of meeting up with and photographing cousins Kaisei, Mio and Winnie recently, when their parents and grandparents set up a multi-generational shoot while everyone was together in Portland. These children are just adorable. Kaisei’s smile and personality are just infectious, you cannot help but laugh along with him. And the two younger girls, Winnie and Mio are total sweetness. Though most of our session consisted of posed groupings, I was able to sneak in a few candid shots of Chester and Liz just loving on their precious granddaughters. Definitely my favorite shots of the day!

Thank you Jung Family, for allowing me to take your special portraits!

Henry and Family {Selfie Challenge Winner!}

I was so thrilled to finally get to photograph this lovely family, the winners of my Selfie Challenge! After at least 4 (yes…FOUR) weather reschedules, baby Henry,  his parents Hilary and Aaron, and I were finally able to meet up. Hilary is the owner and creative force behind Lumafina, a gorgeous high end jewelry brand you absolutely must check out.

At first, Henry was all smiles and cooperation, even though our session started pretty late in the evening for a 1o month old. As the evening wore on, Henry lost interest in the lady with the camera, and was thoroughly fascinated by the many planes flying over Fort Vancouver Historic Site. He even makes the most adorable airplane sounds when he sees one!

His parents are so full of love for this boy. No matter how many families I photograph, the bond between parents and their children is so individual and special, a unique relationship unlike any I’ve seen before, and it takes my breath away every time. Thank you, Hilary, for entering my contest. I am so glad I had the opportunity to photograph your beautiful family!2014-06-05_00022014-06-05_0001

Gabby and Maddie {Sellwood Park, SE Portland}

Oh, these gorgeous people!

Its been a few years since I’ve gotten to photograph Maddie and Gabby, but they are still precious, precocious, beautiful girls, just as I remember them. Upon seeing them interact, I became instantly jealous over whatever mind control Paul and Sarah have concocted to get them to act so genuinely loving towards each other. There was literally not a bicker, snap or disagreement between them the entire two hours. Amazing! And of course, they are stunningly beautiful, adorably coming up with their own poses they wanted me to capture them in.  The beautiful park their mama came up with for location was the icing on the cake…all in all, a perfect session!

Until we meet again, Maddie and Gabby!
