Baby Aiden – Happy 1st Birthday! {Lake Oswego, OR}

I spent a recent morning with Aiden and his parents, grandparents, and uncle in Lake Oswego. This little baby is so, so, so precious, and (it was quickly apparent to me) so loved! I am a sucker for curls, and Aiden has a head full of perfect baby ringlets, along with a sweet disposition and charming smile to boot. Photographer heaven! Aiden’s mom was prepared with balloons and first birthday cupcakes, and we had some fun photographing the little guy interacting with both.
Aiden’s whole family is lovely, and made my job easy. His parents, Laura and David, are relocating to another state soon, and so it was especially sweet to get to capture the extended family together before the move.
Thanks for the opportunity to photograph your precious family, Laura and David, and good luck with the relocation!

Garland Family – Canoes & Inside Jokes {4-H Camp – Salem, OR}

The passage of time really is an amazing thing. It’s a bit mind-bending to see someone who you last remember as a teenager (that would be Liz), still looking like she did as a teenager, yet a mom TO A TEENAGER. How the heck have so many years passed? Liz selected the 4-H center in West Salem for the location of our shoot, and though I had not been there before, it could not have been a more perfect setting! I loved the lake and canoes as a backdrop.

For the record, Liz is a fabulous mom, and I had such a fun afternoon with her family! Though they are very obviously a strikingly photogenic family, older brother Daniel isn’t necessarily a natural in front of the camera. This made for some lighthearted ribbing from the rest of his brood (especially his dad), and some amusement for me, as they shared all sorts of inside jokes and stories to get him to loosen up (Don’t worry, Garland family, my lips are sealed!). Despite Daniel’s unease, I think we got some great photos!
Thanks so much, Garland Family, it was such a pleasure to take your portraits!

Siri – Girl with a Ukulele

Siri and I shot the last portion of her senior photos on Minto Brown Island in Salem. The heavenly scent of blackberries was thick in the air, the sun was setting, and Siri had her Ukulele with. I was a happy photographer! Can you say “sun flare”?
I loved getting to photograph Siri in this sort of setting. There is a familiar loveliness to her bone structure, and after discovering that she is of Scandinavian decent, it all clicked! She bears a striking resemblance to my Danish grandmother as a young woman.
It was a very warm 90+ degree day, but we persevered. I love the results. I hope you do to, Siri!

Siri – City Girl {Pearl District PDX & Downtown Salem}

When Siri and I made arrangements for her Senior Portraits, the word she used to describe herself was “Quirky”. I liked her right away! This girl is smart, talented and driven, and basically gives me great hope for Karter Lily’s teenage years.
With just a week to go before leaving for her senior year at a performing arts school in a different state, we squeezed in a session in both Portland’s Pearl District (at Jackpot Records), and Salem’s Downtown area. Below are a few of our “urban” results. Photos from our
time at Minto Brown Island to follow in my next post!

Brody & Avery {Klineline Lake, Vancouver WA}

Handsome Brody’s 6th birthday is just around the corner, so his mom figured it was a good opportunity for family portraits. I worked extra hard to coax some smiles out of Brody during the beginning of our shoot, to no avail. Only after turning my attention to everyone else’s photos did Brody warm up, and actually began demanding my attention with a “take a picture of me doing this!” and “Hey, look at me!”. Was this the same kid? 🙂

Though I did wind up getting some amazing smiles out of Brody, my favorite of the lot is the black and white below of he and his dad. It was such a sweet little stolen moment, I could tell they are super close. Little boys with their Daddy’s always melt my heart.
Brody’s little sister Avery sure had grown!!!! Remember her from here? Still such a sweet pea, though.
Thanks Burns family, I had so much fun with you guys!

S is for…

Sassy twirls, swirly skirts, silly giggles, the St. John’s bridge, and of course, stunning SYDNEY! Sydney and her folks, John and Erynn, wanted to meet up at Cathedral Park, a lovely area near their N. Portland home. Having lived in San Francisco for a time, they are very fond of the bridge, which favors the Golden Gate. I have to say, I’m quite a fan too, and it made for a perfect portrait setting.

And,Sydney is the perfect subject: cute as a button, smiles on command, and loves to do all the things that make for fabulous little girl photos. Thanks, Fearn family, for such a fun shoot! I hope we can do it again!

Henry, Olive & Kate – Camas, WA

I have photographed many gorgeous families this year, and as you can see, Henry, Olive and Kate’s family is no exception. I met up with the siblings (and their grown-ups, Jen and Michael) at a beautiful park in Camas called Klickitat. The park is a place the family is very fond of, and I loved the idea of photographing them in a location of significance. Big brother Henry was adorably polite, referring to me as “Ms. Lady with the Camera”. So cute. He and his younger twin sisters were busy, happy and active, running in all directions, and I had a blast trying to keep up and capture them!

Preston — Portland OR

This little guy has a special place in my heart. He and my little girl are the “oldest” of friends, and have known each other since they were tiny babies in daycare. It has been a pleasure to watch him grow in to a great kid, kind-hearted and fun-loving. And handsome too, wouldn’t you say?

Miss Avery — Take 2!

I had the pleasure of meeting up with Avery and her mom again, this time indoors.

This was my first time using any sort of indoor studio set-up and off-camera lighting. Shout out to my friend and photographer extrordinaire Timothy Horn for lending me some gear to make it happen!

Back to Avery…she has chub for miles, and it was not tough to talk her mom into letting me put her in a pink and black tutu. Isn’t she adorable?
